Before flying away to the Czech Republic or Slovakia, you might want to think about studying the language a little bit.  A very good site to take language lessons is Learn Slovak (learnslovak.com).  Slovak language and Czech language are very close in many many ways and most of you will not be able to tell too much of a difference.  Learning Slovak is an excellent substitute for learning Czech.  Learn Slovak has a dedicated teacher whose only job is teaching the Slovak language and helping you translate Slovak, translate Czech, and actually learning Slovak/Czech instead of just picking up a few phrases or looking things up in a Slovak dictionary.
